STORY IN A NUTSHELL:
Full Metal Panic the Second Raid is a return back to the action and drama that made the first season such a hit! Mithril is still the silent guard at Japan’s back while soldier Sousuke struggles with trying to adapt to life as a normal student in high school in Japan while still working for Mithril. When a traitor in Mithril sends everything to hell in a hand basket, everyone is on the alert and fighting with enemies old and new.

A secret organization with close ties to Mithril is on the move and one of its plans is to capture the Whispered Kaname. But Mithril is dealing with a rising crisis in China and for much of this series Kaname and Sousuke are separated but still heavily on each other’s minds.  His feelings for Kaname cause conflict and confusion for the soldier, but Sousuke must pull it together to stop China from falling into civil war. The story builds to amazing climaxes in more than one scene. Kaname faces deadly assassins alone in the rain, Sousuke battles Wraith with his wearing confidence with his Lamda equip Arm Slave, and Mithril has to stop Gates from throwing the world into chaos.

REVIEW IN THE MATTER:
Based on the series of light novels The End of Day by Day, and a direct sequel to the original series, Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, comes with intense action, drama and animation compared to its predecessor. The violence of TSR is also as intense as the action because the type of violence used in the series is not like any you would have seen from the original and its spin-off, Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU.

Drama is high in this series as well, and it revolves around the main characters of Sousuke and Kaname. However, the slapstick comedy the show is known for still exists but in a minimum, as the series mainly focuses on a darker tone to the story. To add to its darker tone is the character of Gates, who is the diabolical and sadistic antagonist in the series, thus making TSR more geared for adult viewers.

IN TECHNICAL TERMS:
As mentioned, TSR comes with high-intensity action, and having it on Blu-ray gives this series a better look and feel as the Blu-ray yielded stunning colors and clarity, especially in bright and colorful scenes. Dark colors are nicely done, and gradient effects and any other digital irregularities are non existence.

The English and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sounds also yielded great quality sound, and both languages are up to par with its decibels. As for the LFE (low frequency effect), it sounded well as you can just hear the subwoofer reverberate continuously with every action scene.
For the menu system, FUNimation, as always, uses a clear and concise menu system that is easy to use.

FEATURETTE:
Other than the usual Opening and Ending Animation, and trailers, the disc comes with over 2 plus hours of a on Hong Kong location scouting and a tour of the Japanese Self Defense force, and a documentary of Dawn of the Light Novel, which examines how light novels are turned to anime and uses Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid as the subject.

Other noticeable extras are Episode 000 (480p resolution), a promotional short for the series, and a special OVA episode which focuses on a comical day in the life of Tessa.

A trailer of Mushi-shi Live Action Film is included, and it is in 1080p.

CASE IN POINT:
Riveting drama and intense action captured in its full high-definition glory. A totally new experience of watching FMP! TSR.
